Kalki Koechlin, a popular Bollywood actor and writer, decided to delete her Twitter account, due to the spread of hate and misinformation about the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.
She announced her decision on Instagram, where she shared a screenshot of the deactivation process along with a heartfelt message explaining her reasons.
Koechlin expressed her frustration with the negativity, and helplessness that she felt while doom scrolling Twitter. She said what really made her draw a line was the denial or justification of the violence against Palestinian children and women.
She wrote, “Had to do this today. The hate and disinformation, the doom scrolling, the helplessness. But what really crossed the line for me, what really made me draw a boundary was the denial or the justification of Palestinian children murdered in the thousands or the denial or glorification of Israeli women being raped, tortured and murdered, I have had enough.”

In her post, Koechlin also shared a list of resources that helped her gain a more informed perspective on the situation. She recommended books, documentaries, podcasts, and articles that covered the history, politics, and human stories of the Israel-Palestine issue. She urged her followers to educate themselves and empathize with the people suffering on both sides.
Koechlin’s move received significant attention and support from internet users, including fellow actor Sayani Gupta. Gupta commented on Koechlin’s post, saying that she agreed with her sentiments and that she had also left Twitter two years ago. She said that quitting Twitter was the best decision she ever made, as it freed her from the toxicity and polarization that dominated online discussions. She praised Koechlin for speaking out on the Israel-Palestine issue when others in the Indian film industry remain silent.
Koechlin is known for her unconventional and bold roles in films such as Dev.D, Margarita with a Straw, and Gully Boy. She is also an outspoken advocate for women’s rights, environmental issues, and social justice.
She has also been vocal about her own experiences of sexual abuse, and her divorce. She is one of the few celebrities in India who have taken a stand on the Israel-Palestine conflict, which has escalated in recent weeks, resulting in hundreds of deaths and injuries.
