Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the Narendra Modi government of being the “Adani government” and expressed confidence that the BJP’s rule at the Center would end with the victory of the INDIA bloc in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
During an election rally in Coimbatore with Chief Minister and DMK President MK Stalin, Gandhi claimed that “Narendra Modi and Adani policies have created two Indias. One India of billionaires and the other India of poor people.”
The strong relationship between Congress and the ruling DMK was evident as Stalin referred to Gandhi as “dear brother,” emphasising their vision for a new India. Gandhi referred to Stalin as his “elder brother” and noted that he doesn’t call any other politician his brother.
Stalin praised the Congress party’s manifesto as the ‘election hero’ and applauded Gandhi for listening to people’s problems through his yatras, leading to a manifesto that supports social justice, as championed by the DMK.
Gandhi said, “”storm is set to arrive, Narendra Modi is going to be dislodged from power.” Modi government actually is “Adani government, it should be called Adani govt and not Narendra Modi government” and stated that it should be called the “Adani government” rather than the “Narendra Modi government.”
While alleging that the government gives major infrastructure projects, such as airports and highways to Adani, Gandhi accused Adani of wanting the Mumbai airport and stated that the airport owners faced a CBI inquiry and thus handed the airport over to Adani. The inquiry disappeared afterward. “Anything he wants, he gets,” Gandhi added.
Gandhi promised that if the INDIA bloc comes to power, it will take “revolutionary and historic action” unprecedented in a country as large as India. He empasised on the Congress manifesto’s features, including women’s empowerment and job creation.
He emphasised that this election was an ideological battle and not just a regular election, asserting the importance of protecting the Constitution, which he described as the soul and voice of India’s people. He had made the same remarks in the Mega Rally held at Delhi against the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal.
Gandhi claimed that the BJP MPs openly announed their desire to change the Constitution if they retained power at the Center. He said, “The Constitution is not an ordinary book, it is the soul, it is the voice of India’s people. That soul and that voice is being attacked by the Prime Minister and by the RSS.”
Rahul Gandhi slammed Prime Minister Modi’s electoral bond scheme, calling it a form of extortion and “the single biggest act of corruption in the world.” He contrasted Modi’s claim of cleaning up politics with allegations of favouring a “one nation, one leader, one language” strategy that ignores regional languages such as Tamil and Manipuri.
Gandhi denounced Modi for undermining Tamil culture, history, custom, and language, while also emphasising the difficulties encountered by Tamil farmers and the high unemployment rate among Tamil youths. He promised to give young people with apprenticeship legislation and fill 30 lakh unfilled government positions.
Gandhi criticised the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) as anti-poor, promising Tamil Nadu autonomy in determining its implementation. He accused the Center of denying Tamil Nadu’s requests for flood relief, and mentioned the hardships faced by the state’s fishermen and farmers in seeking assistance from the Center.
