A 23-year-old gym trainer was taken away by a group following the clashes associated with his relationship with a girl and was allegedly assaulted by the group. The assault came allegedly because of love jihad, as claimed by a few groups. However, the police denied the claim.
The gym trainer, identified as Sameer Mulla, suffered injuries in the assault and is undergoing treatment at a hospital, the police added.
The incident
City Police Commissioner N Shashikumar said that the sequence of the incident started from a personal clash between two families and was not associated with ‘love jihad.’
The clash occurred when a group of people between 8 am and 9 am went to the victim’s house, leading to a clash. Furthermore, the victim was taken away and later brought to a police station.
“It was found that the issue was related to a relationship between the youth and a girl. The girl’s family members had come to threaten the boy,” City Police Commissioner N Shashikumar said, talking to the media.
The victim’s sister, Taiseem Mullah, said the former was forcibly abducted and subjected to assault by a group.
Taiseem stated that her brother was forcibly removed from their home by a large assembly early in the morning. She further alleged that he remained untraceable for approximately two hours before being found in a state requiring immediate medical attention.”
However, the girl’s mother’s statement gives a different turn to the incident. She alleged that her daughter had been “hypnotized and harassed” by the victim and his family.
“My daughter has been hypnotized. There is no relationship between my daughter and Sameer,” she said.
Personal Clashes, not ‘Love Jihad’
The commissioner further refuted the allegations made by groups that the incident stemmed from ‘love jihad.’
“There was some friction at both places. The boy has now been rescued and is undergoing treatment for minor injuries,” he said.
“For us, it is a criminal case, and we will investigate accordingly,” he said, adding that appropriate cases would be registered based on complaints received.
