India’s ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has officially commenced its campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha Election 2024, ‘Modi Ko Chunte Hai’. The campaign was launched on Thursday, accompanied by a lively anthem titled ‘Tabhi toh sab Modi ko chunte’ (That’s why people choose Modi). The 2-minute, 10-second video highlights the accomplishments and government initiatives led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The campaign anthem showcases key achievements, such as the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Har Ghar Nal Scheme, and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, illustrating the progress made during PM Modi’s tenure.
Addressing young voters in a virtual event organized by the BJP’s youth wing, Prime Minister Modi stressed the significant role of the youth in shaping India’s future. He urged them to take responsibility for the nation’s development over the next 25 years, drawing parallels with the youth’s contribution to the freedom movement before Independence.
PM Modi highlighted the positive changes in the country over the past decade, including advancements in infrastructure, digital initiatives, and support for startups. He encouraged young voters to recognize the abundant opportunities available and reiterated the government’s commitment to progress.
Recent Developments:
In a subtle jab at the Opposition alliance, PM Modi emphasized the stability of his government in the last decade. He pointed to key decisions, such as the removal of Article 370, and the abolition of instant triple talaq among Muslims. The abrogation of the Article was critisized by the local and national political parties and sparked tension among the people living in Kashmir.
As India prepares for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, political analysts note the BJP’s favorable standing. Recent events, like the inauguration of the Ram Temple and victories in three assembly elections in 2023, contribute to a positive political environment for PM Modi. However, it’s important to acknowledge that the country has witnessed unrest, particularly concerning communal tensions against the Muslim community, reflected in forceful pro-‘Ram’ chants, incidents of mob lynching, and the demolition of Muslim-owned structures, often referred to as “bulldozer justice.”
The cracks within the INDIA bloc alliance, with West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann choosing to fight independently, further solidify the BJP’s standing.
The BJP, having secured an absolute majority with 282 seats in 2014 and increased its influence with 303 seats in 2019, is now preparing for the challenge of securing a third consecutive term under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The political landscape is set for an engaging electoral battle, with all eyes on the world’s largest democracy.
