Ahead of the concern about the “missing people,” Delhi’s Southwest District Police have recovered at least 118 missing or kidnapped people, which includes 31 children and 87 adults, under “Operation Milap.”
As per the reports, locals played a significant role in recovering the people. The checking of CCTV footage took place, and pictures of kidnapped/missing people were shown to the public at auto stands, e-rickshaw stands, bus stands, and railway stations.
Furthermore, bus drivers and conductors were also asked about the missing/kidnapped people, and records of nearby police stations and hospitals were also checked thoroughly to recover the people.
After these extensive efforts, the Southwest District Police successfully traced 118 missing people, which include children, from February 1 to 28. Two males and seven females, which makes a total of nine persons, were traced by PS Vasant Viha, and one missing minor boy along with six missing persons was tracked by PS RK Puram.
Furthermore, two minor girls and one missing male were tracked by the staff of PS South Campus. Additionally, six missing minor children (1 boy and 5 girls) and eleven missing persons (6 males and 5 females) were recovered by PS Palam Village.
Meantime, PS Sagarpur traced sixteen persons, including 5 minor girls and 11 adults. Whereas PS SJ Enclave traced 1 minor girl and 13 adults; the adults included 10 males and 3 females. Additionally, four persons were located by the PS Sarojini Nagar, and one female was traced by PS Delhi Cantt.
Under “Operation Milap,” the South-West District Police facilitated the safe return of 118 missing persons to their families, officials said. The initiative involved coordinated search efforts and sustained follow-up and verification procedures to trace those reported missing.
Earlier this year in January, alarming data surfaced on the internet highlighting alarming data about public safety in Delhi. According to the official data from the Delhi Police, more than 800 people were found missing between January 1 and January 15, which reports to the average of 54 people missing every day in the national capital. Out of the total, 509 were women and girls, while 298 were men. The data also shows that 191 were minors, while 616 were adults.
In the time frame of January 1 and 15, an average of 13 children went missing daily in Delhi. Out of which, 191 were missing minors, and 146 were girls. The data also shows that 169 minors were aged between 12 and 18 years. Of these, 138 were girls and 31 were boys. Authorities have traced just 48 teenagers, 29 girls and 19 boys, while nearly 71%, or 121 minors, remain missing.
The largest share of missing cases are formed by the adults. 616 adults were reported missing, which includes 363 women and 253 men. 91 women have been traced, and 90 men have been traced. However, 435 adults are yet to be traced.
The year 2025 alone witnessed over 24,500 missing persons cases in Delhi, with women accounting for more than 60% of the total. Meanwhile, another analysis of a decade-long time span shows nearly 2.3 lakh people have gone missing in the city, with around 52,000 cases still unresolved.
