A 13-year-old boy was shot dead during a birthday party in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow district on Monday ahead of an “accidental firing,. The incident happened at 6:30 pm when the victim, identified as Unaiz, was picked up by his friend for the birthday party.
“In Thana Krishna Nagar, late evening, a 13-year-old was shot dead in an accidental fire while he was at a friend’s birthday party,” said DCP Agarwal while talking to Siasat.com.
The victim was shot by the minor allegedly using a revolver that was registered under his father’s name.
The minor allegedly used a revolver to shoot Unaiz. The revolver was registered under the accused’s father.
Following the incident, a case has been registered under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“Unaiz was immediately rushed by the house owner to Lok Bandhu Hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” the police said in a statement.
The body was sent for post-mortem examination, and further legal proceedings were underway, the ACP said. Police were also probing the circumstances in which the firearm was left accessible and whether any negligence was involved.
Apart from this, six other people were also injured, consisting of the accused’s parents.
Police detained the three minor friends for questioning following the incident. According to officials, the driver and the minors’ parents were subsequently named in the chargesheet.
Speaking to reporters, the grieving family members of Unaiz alleged that he was deliberately shot at point-blank range, claiming the attack was driven by an earlier dispute between the two minors.
“He was fasting, and I had told him not to go,” Unaiz’s father said.
“How would I have known they would kill him?” he added.
“The accused took him to his own house and killed him, and from there deposited him at the Lok Bandhu hospital. He had already died at the home,” his aunt said.
Meanwhile, DCP Agarwal said that the firing was accidental; however, an investigation has been conducted from all angles.
