Pickup Driver Hamid Beaten to Death after Car Collision in Saharanpur; 2 Apprehended, Investigation Underway

Date:

A 42-year-old pickup driver identified as Hamid was beaten to death, allegedly after his vehicle hit Hyundai Creta, leading to an argument that cost him his life. 42-year-old Hamid, resident of Kheda Afghan village, a farmer and a pickup driver, like on his usual days, set off from his work with his vehicle on Friday, unaware that he would never return to his home and his two children (both under the age of 7) would lose a father and a guardian.

The gut-wrenching incident starts from a minor quarrel, with Hamid’s vehicle being hit by a Creta car. Hamid did not fan the argument further and left the spot. But “They (with whom Hamid had an argument) hadn’t forgotten the incident. They called some of their friends, and when Hamid was about to cross that area and reach Phandpuri, they stopped him, dragged him, and brutally beat him,” MLA Shahnawaz Khan, who lives in the vicinity of Hamid, told FoEJ Media.

“Hamid was a very decent man. He had a wife, small children, and a brother who is mute. Those children have now lost the shelter of their father,” Khan added.

The mob allegedly beat Hamid for nearly 20 minutes, and when he became unconscious, they left him writhing on the road, and fled; meanwhile, the passersby acted as silent spectators of this barbaric killing.  When the police reached the spot, Hamid was unconscious and was rushed to the hospital, but he died within two hours.

According to the doctor who conducted the postmortem, Hamid’s chest had multiple injuries. He had been reportedly kicked several times, and the repeated blows triggered a heart attack. Marks of injury were also found all over his body. The police have arrested two men, Manish and Mohit, involved in Hamid’s murder.

Three teams have been reportedly formed by the police to trace the remaining suspects, and the probe is underway. “Further arrests will be made based on CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts,” the Saharanpur SP Rural Sagar Jain said, as reported by the Indian Express.
