Ahead of Israeli air strikes that killed at least 45 people, US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the ceasefire was “still holding.”
“We want to make sure that it’s going to be very peaceful with Hamas,” Trump said, speaking to reporters. “It’s going to be handled toughly, but properly,” he added.
The ceasefire, which started on October 10, aimed at halting the Israel onslaughts on Gaza, which lasted for more than two years and killed more than 68,000 people in Gaza, as per the reports from the Hamas-run health ministry. The latest violation of the ceasefire, which, as described by Hamas, was a “blatant violation” of the deal, began in southern Gaza after the Israeli military said “terrorists fired an anti-tank missile and gunfire.”
“Pay a heavy price for every shot and every breach of the ceasefire,” while Hamas’s political bureau accused Israel of fabricating “flimsy pretexts,” Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said.
“The situation is as if the war has returned anew,” said Abdullah Abu Hasanin, a resident of Al-Bureij camp, as reported by the Hindustan Times. “We had hoped the agreement would hold, but the occupation respects nothing. Blood has returned again,” he added.
Violation of Ceasefire
The violation of ceasefire began in south Gaza, as said by the Israeli military, after “terrorists fired an anti-tank missile and gunfire” towards its troops in Rafa, which claimed the lives of its two soldiers. However, Hamas said it was “unaware” of any such act. By evening, as reported by BBC, Israel said it targeted Hamas across Gaza, which claimed the lives of 45 people. Meanwhile, after this ceasefire, both Hamas and Israel have unanimously agreed to continue the agreement, with Israel returning the bodies of 15 Palestinians to Gaza on Sunday and Hamas releasing 20 people to Israel.
