A case has been filed in Telangana’s Suryapet district ahead of the discovery of the carcass of a pig inside an Eidgah in Basha Naik Tanda. Local Muslims claim that it was done to provoke communal tension during Ramadan.
As the incident unfolded, the first information report (FIR) was registered at the Suryapet Rural Police Station on Tuesday by a Muslim man identified as Md. Inthiyaz.
The incident came to light when Inthiyaz, along with two others, went to clean the Eidgah and found the lifeless body of a pig lying inside the Eidgah.
It has been alleged that unidentified people had kept it inside the premises deliberately to provoke communal tension during the month of Ramadan. Following the FIR, a case has been registered under sections 192 (provocation with intent to cause riot) and 325 (mischief by killing or maiming animal) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.
“A highly provocative and condemnable incident has taken place at Eidgah, Basha Naik Tanda (Suryapet, Telangana), where a dead pig was found, hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims during the holy month of Ramzan,” said Amjed Ullah Khan, spokesperson for Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT).
“An FIR (Crime No. 62/2026 U/s 325, 192 BNS) has been registered at Suryapet Rural Police Station. This is clearly a deliberate attempt to disturb communal harmony.
There has been a steep rise in communal incidents since Congress came to power and Mr. Revanth Reddy became Chief Minister of Telangana. On one side communal elements are attacking Muslims and damaging Madersas and Masjids, while on the other side government departments are also taking actions affecting Muslim religious institutions,” he added.
The MBT chief alleged that communal incidents have risen in Telangana, stating that at least 53 attacks on Muslims, mosques, and madrasas have taken place since Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy took office in December 2023.
Meanwhile, police said an investigation into the incident is underway.
