With her husband in jail and facing constant pressure from politics, Sunita Kejriwal hasn’t ceased her efforts for the AAP’s victory in the upcoming elections. Sunita conducted a roadshow in West Delhi on Sunday, with widespread supporters waving AAP flags and chanting slogans like ‘Mein Bhi Kejriwal’, ‘Jail Ka Jawab Vote Se’, and ‘Jai Bheem’.
The former IRS officer, Sunita Kejriwal, held the event on Mall Road (Lala Ganesh Dass Khatri Marg) in West Delhi with Kuldeep Singh by her side. While people showered flower petals on her, the event drew a huge crowd rallying behind AAP and the INDIA Alliance candidate Mahabal Mishra for the West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency.
“They have been keeping your chief minister and my husband, Arvind Kejriwal, in jail for the last month. So far, no court has pronounced him guilty. They are saying the investigation is ongoing. If the investigation continues for 10 years, will they keep him in jail for 10 years?” She said this from the car’s sunroof.
“This is clearly their high-handedness and dictatorship,” she said.
“Nobody can bend Kejriwal ji. No one can break him. He is the true son of Mother India. Today, this daughter of Mother India is urging you to save this country. Save Mother India. This country is going towards dictatorship; save it from dictatorship.
Seat Sharing With Congress
On April 27, Sunita held a rally in solidarity with the East Delhi candidate of the party, Kuldeep Kumar. The AAP is contesting the Lok Sabha polls in Delhi in alliance with the Congress. The party has fielded its candidates in East Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, and New Delhi seats with a 4:3 ratio.
With AAP’s campaign in the doldrums, Sunita Kejriwal will spearhead the party’s rallies and public gatherings in Punjab, Gujarat, and Haryana as well.
“In protest against the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, will campaign to seek blessings for him and to seek votes for AAP candidates. She will seek blessings for him from the people of Delhi, Punjab, Gujarat, and Haryana,” Atishi said at a press conference on Friday.
The AAP is contesting from two seats, Bharuch and Bhavnagar, in Gujarat. In Haryana, the AAP has fielded its candidate in Kurukshetra. In Punjab, the AAP is contesting all 13 Lok Sabha seats after it failed to reach a consensus with the Congress.
AAP Ordered to Modify its Campaign Song
After the complaint filed by the BJP saying that the AAP rap song took a swipe at central investigation agencies and the party, the EC ordered the party to modify the song. Responding to this, AAP leader Atishi said, “It is probably the first time that the EC has imposed a ban on a party’s campaign song.”
“If the BJP does dictatorship, it is right. But if someone talks about it, that is wrong. This shows that democracy is in danger. I want to urge the EC to act on the (poll code) violations committed by the BJP and not stop the campaigns of opposition parties,” she said.
According to the Election Commission, the song violates the advertising codes in the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, and ECI’s guidelines and norms. The song ‘Jail ka jawaab hum vote se denge, written and sung by party MLA Dilip Pandey, was released at the party headquarters on April 26.
Sunita denied meeting her husband
AAP has accused the Tihar Authorities Jail of denying Sunita Kejriwal her scheduled visit to the jail with her husband, Kejriwal.
AAP’s official handle read, “BJP’s jail administration canceled Sunita Kejriwal’s meeting with Arvind Kejriwal. Arvind Kejriwal is being treated like a terrorist in jail. Can’t a wife even meet her husband now?”
NDTV reported that as per the jail authorities, only two people can visit an inmate in a week, and as Atishi and Bhagwat Maan had already applied, Sunita’s request was denied.
