The event, called Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, was organised by the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Welfare Department on Wednesday in Puducherry. The chief guests of the event were Puducherry Chief Minister Rangasamy and Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Sounderrajan.
However, the event turned into a fiasco when around 50 tribals, who were invited to the event, found no place to sit. The venue, which had a seating capacity of only 300, was reportedly filled with government officials, leaving the tribals with no option but to sit on the floor. The tribals felt insulted and humiliated at an event that was meant to honor them.
The situation was brought to the notice of Tamilisai Sounderrajan and CM Rangasamy, who immediately instructed the district collector to provide chairs to the tribals. After nearly 15 minutes of chaos and commotion, the event resumed.
The Lieutenant Governor expressed her displeasure over the incident and issued a notice to the concerned authorities seeking an explanation. She said that such an incident should not have happened and that the tribals should be treated with respect and dignity. She also said that she would take necessary action to prevent such incidents in the future.
