A man was allegedly killed by his co-worker for “deceitfully” feeding him beef and taunted him over it, the Uttar Pradesh Police said.
The accused, Virendra, hailing from the Solapur police station area, was arrested on the night of January 24 from his maternal uncle’s abode, Sindhora Station House Officer (SHO) Gyanendra Kumar Tripathi said.
The lifeless body of the victim, identified as Aftab Alam, a resident of Bihar, was recovered on January 8 in Mahagaon village under suspicious circumstances, with blood oozing out from his mouth and nose, the SHO added.
Ahead of this, police launched an investigation. Tripathi said that a review of Alam’s bank accounts revealed transfers of funds to Virendra’s account.
“An examination of CCTV footage from an ATM showed Virendra with Aftab,” he added.
The police, as reported by the news agency PTI, said that the accused had worked with Aftab in Bengaluru, where the latter allegedly fed him feces, where the accused remained oblivious to this, and taunted him about it in front of their friends, the SHO said.
Later on January 7, Virendra called Aftad to his abode and then ferried him to a secluded spot in Mahagaon and eventually strangled him to death.
The details of the incident further reveal that, the same day, Virendra allegedly transferred money from Aftab’s mobile-linked account to his own. Police said they have recovered the rope used in the murder, along with the victim’s Aadhaar card and ATM card. A mobile phone was also seized based on Virendra’s disclosure, and efforts are underway to trace the co-accused.
