In yet another attack on the places of minorities, the 100-year-old Syed Baba Bulleshah’s Shrine (Mazar) was allegedly attacked and vandalized by a Hindutva mob allegedly associated with Hindu Raksha Dal in Uttarakhand’s Mussoorie on Saturday.
The sequence of the incident originates from 6:45 am on Saturday when a group of 25-30 people arrived at the shrine armed with hammers and vandalized the structures built around it, damaging the properties located in the Wynberg Allen Estate in Mussoorie.
The video of the incident, making rounds on the internet, shows a mob chanting religious slogans like “Jai Shri Ram” while demolishing the shrine. The investigation is underway.
Mussoorie Sub-Inspector (SI) Satendra Kumar Bhati confirmed the incident occurred on Saturday, following which a First Information Report (FIR) was filed by Akram Khan the next day.
Police said a case has been registered against 25 to 30 unknown persons under sections 196(1)(b) (Promoting enmity) and 298 (Destroying a place of worship) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“A case has been booked against 25 to 30 people under sections 196(1)(b) (promoting enmity) and 298 (destroying a place of worship) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),” SI Bhati said.
The police further said that the incident has created outrage in the area, with people gathering at the spot and holding protests.
Police said an adequate police force has been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. Condemning the incident, the Syed Bullesha Committee has expressed strong displeasure following the incident and has demanded strict action against the culprits.
Police further revealed that a local resident, Akram Khan, lodged a complaint at the Mussorie police station, stating that the unknown persons barged into the shrine with hammers and crowbars and vandalized it.
As per the Sistahs TV, the Syed Baba Bullesha Committee had also lodged a complaint to the police regarding the incident. The complaint states that along with vandalizing the shrine, the donation box, silver crowns, lamps, and other items were looted, Siasat TV reports.
