As the Election Commission of India is set for counting votes for the Maharashtra assembly election on Saturday, for all the 288 seats, leaders from the parties are claiming the throne of Maharashtra.
The ruling alliance- led by the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party led by Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar- was taking a lead by 221 of the state’s 288 seats by 11:30 am.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra congress president Nana Patole sparked a controversy within the MVA by saying that the alliance government, if formed, would be led by the Congress. “Voting trends suggest the Congress will win the most seats,” Patole said.
Patole’s remarks gained a scorching reaction fromMVA ally Shiv Sena (UBT). However, If the Congress high command has chosen Patole, its senior leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, or Rahul Gandhi should announce it,” news agency PTI quoted Sanjay Raut as saying.
What Big Names are there in the Elections?
Eknath Shinde, Ajit Pawar and Aaditya Thackeray are among the many big names fighting this election.
The other big name is Zeeshan Siddiqui of the Ajit Pawar NCP faction. He is the son of ex- Maharashtra minister Baba Siddiqui, who was shot dead by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang last month.
Aditya Thackeray is fighting against ex- Congress veteran Milind Deora, the two are contesting the Worli seat.
Fadnavis the Next CM of Maharashtra?
As reported by the news agency PTI, BJP legislator Pravin Darekar on Saturday demanded that Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis be appointed as the next chief minister of the state with early trends in the counting of votes for the assembly elections indicating a win for the Mahayuti combine.
What’s the Exit Poll Update?
As reported by the NDTV, the MVA was given only a slim chance of disrupting the BJP-led alliance’s dominance in the final election of the year, with just one of 11 exit polls analyzed by NDTV predicting a victory for the opposition. Three other polls were indecisive, yet even they leaned toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party. On average, the 11 exit polls forecast 155 seats for the Mahayuti (BJP-led alliance) and 120 for the MVA, with smaller parties and independents expected to secure the remaining 13 seats.
