A frolic evening of a 6-year-old boy, his father, and cousins turned into a nightmare when their car met with an accident, and the 6-year-old boy died after being hit by the airbag.
The kid, identified as Harsh Mavji Arethia, hailing from Vashi, went out to eat panipuris with his father and cousins and was seated in the front passenger seat when an SUV driver ahead of their car hit a driver.
As a result, the rear part of the car flung into the air, fell on the bonnet of the car where the 6-year-old was seated, causing the airbags to deploy, which eventually hit the boy, claiming his life.
The boy, after being hit by the airbag, was taken to the hospital, where he took his last breath during his treatment. The doctors said that there were no visible injury marks on the body of the 6-year-old boy and that the cause of the death was polytrauma shock.
Sanjay Ghumal, Senior Police Inspector of Vashi Police Station, said in a statement, “Another car coming from behind hit the first car, and its airbags opened. The child, sitting in the car, was hit by the airbag. The people passing by took him to the hospital. He died during the treatment. A case has been registered.”
Experts said that, however, the airbags are a vital safety mechanism, they can cause fatal injuries; hence, kids should be prevented from sitting in the front passenger seats.
A case has been registered by the Vashi Police Station, and one more arrest has also been made. According to the reports, the man who was driving the SUV and was primarily behind the accident has been taken into police custody.
