Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath lashed out at the Congress, accusing the party of “disrespecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and neglecting Dalit and underprivileged communities.”
Addressing a press conference, Adityanath said that the Congress “only cares about Muslims.”
“The Congress never thought of building memorials for Baba Saheb. In contrast, the Bharatiya Janata Party has developed the ‘Panchteerth,’ commemorating the five key sites associated with Ambedkar’s life,” he said.
Yogi further slammed Congress for changing the Constitution’s Preamble at the time of the emergency by introducing the terms ‘secular’ and ‘socialist.’
“The BJP has worked tirelessly to uplift Dalits and marginalized communities, giving due respect to Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. The Congress, on the other hand, has a history of neglect and appeasement politics,” he asserted.
“Every Indian holds Baba Saheb in high reverence. The BJP is committed to upholding his vision and ensuring social justice for all,” Yogi added.
Ravi Shankar Prasad Accused Congress Party
The BJP leaders, including Ravi Shankar Prasad, also accused the Congress party of historically disrespecting Ambedkar. Prasad reportedly demanded an apology from Congress.
The Congress, however, earlier this month launched a nationwide campaign for the resignation of Union Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of a “deliberate attack” on BR Ambedkar during a parliamentary debate on the Constitution.
The protest was in response to the statement issued by Amit Shah saying the opposition party repeatedly disrespected Ambedkar. “It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar…If they had taken God’s name so many times, they would have secured a place in heaven for seven lifetimes,” he said.
Mayawati Lashes Out at Both Congress and BJP
Meanwhile, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Sunday said that the Congress party ignored and undermined Ambedkar’s struggle for the country and is engaged in “politics of pure deception and selfishness.”.
She also lashes out atthe BJP, saying that the ruling party and the Congress are cut from the same cloth when it comes to taking Ambedkar’s name for vote bank politics.
“In reality, saints, gurus, and great men born in the Bahujan Samaj, including Baba Saheb got full respect and honor only when there was a BSP government, which these casteist parties cannot digest,” the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said in a series of posts on X.
