A couple of days after the Banjrangdal and VPH activists vandalised decoration at St Mary’s English School in Panigoan, the police have arrested the perpetrators.
Father James Bong, the head of the school, told FoEJ Media that a mob allegedly entered the school campus, vandalised the decorations and set some Christmas materials ablaze.
“A group of individuals allegedly belonging to Banjrangdal and VPH activists entered the school campus on 25th of December, vandalised the decorative materials including the status, and put a few things on fire as well,” Father James said while talking to FoEJ Media.
“Furthermore, the group also raised slogans of Jai Shri Ram,” he added.
According to the Police officials, a case has been registered under multiple sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after a complaint was received. Four people have been taken into custody. The arrested individuals include senior local leaders associated with the VHP and Bajrang Dal.
The investigation is still underway to learn the full sequence of events and to determine all those who were involved in the incident.
“A case has been registered at Belsor police station. Further investigation is going on. We are trying to identify some more people who were involved,” the official said.
“They have been arrested under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and will be produced before a court on Friday,”
The arrested individuals include VHP Nalbari district secretary Bhaskar Deka, parishad district vice-president Manash Jyoti Patgiri, and assistant secretary Biju Dutta, along with Bajrang Dal district convenor Nayan Talukdar, he added.
“In connection with the vandalism at St Mary’s English School, Panigaon, under Belsor Police Station, Nalbari district, the miscreants involved have been arrested,” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
“We are fully committed to maintaining peace, communal harmony, and ensuring the safety of all institutions and citizens across the state.” he added.
