Locals Assault Gau Rakshaks After Attack on Cattle Traders Near Hyderabad Airport

Tension flared at Shamshabad, an area near Hyderabad Airport, on Tuesday earlier this week as a mob of self-proclaimed cow vigilantes, also called gau rakshaks, allegedly attacked cattle traders transporting cattle, prompting a ruckus with the local community, the Siasat Daily reports.

As per the reports of the RGIA Airport police, the cow vigilante group from Puranapul and Rajendranagar stopped the vehicle, which was travelling towards Shamshabad, and launched an attack. 

As the attack unfolded, the nearby residents objected to the actions of the gau rakshaks, triggering a clash.

Meanwhile, the police also reached the spot, and a case has been registered. Two vigilantes sustained minor injuries. Based on that FIR, under sections 162(2) (assault), 118(1) (causing hurt or grievous injuries), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 193(3) (unlawful assembly leading to riots), and 190 (unlawful assembly) of the Bhariya Nyay Samhitha (BNS), have been registered.

Based on their complaint, we have lodged an FIR under Sections 162(2) (assault), 118(1) (causing hurt or grievous injuries), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 193(3) (unlawful assembly leading to riots), and 190 (unlawful assembly) of the Bhariya Nyay Samhitha (BNS).

The police also told Siasat.com the cattle traders had already fled the scene by the time the police arrived.

Nearly two weeks ago, on January 14, Hyderabad witnessed tense communal moments at Puranapul Darwaza after a tattered flex board and a damaged deity idol were allegedly found inside the Mysamma Temple, purportedly by an unidentified person.

What followed was chaos, as an angry mob vandalized nearby graves while chanting “Jai Shri Ram” slogans. A religious flag was also damaged in the incident, the Siasat Daily reports.
