A Muslim migrant worker from West Bengal was allegedly lynched on Wednesday by a group of people in Andhra Pradesh’s Komarlu following the allegation of theft.
The man identified as Manjur Alam Laskar hails from Rongilabad village in the Magrahat West area of the South 24 Parganas district. According to Manjur’s family, the victim was beaten to death by a group of people accusing him of theft.
The family said that they received a call on Tuesday from an unknown number, which demanded Rs. 25,000 and allegedly threatened to kill him if their demand was not met. Following the call, the family reportedly transferred Rs. 6000 via online payment, but despite transferring the payment, the family was informed of Manjur’s death.
This incident came a few days following another Bengali migrant worker, identified as Alauddin Sheikh, hailing from Beldanga in Murshidabad. He was murdered in neighboring Jharkhand on suspicion of Bangladeshi nationality.
The lynching has been reportedly slammed by the BJP-led central government over the alleged attacks on migrant workers from West Bengal.
“Brutal oppression, harassment, and violence” against Bengalis in “every BJP-ruled state,” West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, slamming the incidents.
In yet another incident, earlier this month, another 35-year-old Muslim man was lynched in Odisha’s Balasore district following the assault by a mob who objected to transporting the cattle.
As reported by Maktoob Media, at least five people, including Muslims and a Dalit, were murdered in 2025 following the accused allegedly for being ‘Bangladeshis’ and ‘illegal immigrants.’
