The victory swept over the Bharatiya Janata Party led Mahayuti bloc’s two days ago and has gained the attention on the big decision- who will be the next CM? If the party does not come to a consensus and choose the next Chief Minister, the President’s rule in the state will be made.
In the Maharashtra Assembly election 2024, the Mahayuti alliance secured 232 seats out of 288 and the BJP emerged as the single largest party winning 132 seats. The Shiv Sena emerged victorious on 57 seats and NCP emerged victorious on 41 seats. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) consisting of Congress, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena could secure only 49 seats.
With the BJP’s massive victory, there has been speculation that Deputy CM Devendra Fadanvis might become the CM. He might meet Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda to discuss the formation of the next government in Maharashtra.
Eknath Shinde Retains the CM’s Post?
The Shinde camp advocated the decision of making Eknath Shinde the CM.The number of supporters has been achieved reportedly due to Shinde’s leadership especially due to “Laadli Bahna Yojana.”
The Shiv Sena spokesperson Naresh Mhaske has also indicated that Shinde should continue as the Chief Minister.
“We feel Shinde should be the chief minister, just like in Bihar where BJP did not look at the numbers but still made JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar the CM. Senior leaders of the Mahayuti (in Maharashtra) will ultimately take a decision,” Mhaske said on Monday.
However, the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP is reportedly backing Fadnavis for the chief Minister position.
The Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday has asked his supporters not to gather outside his official residence and ask for his continuation as CM.
“After the great victory of Mahayuti, our government will be formed once again in the state. As a grand alliance, we contested the election together and are still together today. Out of love for me, some congregations have appealed to everyone to gather together and come to Mumbai. I am deeply grateful for your love. But I appeal that no one should come together in my support in such a manner. Once again it is my humble request that Shiv Sena workers should not assemble at Varsha Niwas or anywhere else. The grand alliance has been and will continue to be strong for a strong and prosperous Maharashtra,” he said.
