‘Psychological Torture, Filthy Water, Fear of Not Seeing Him’: Imran Khan’s Sons Allege Harsh Jail Conditions in Pakistan

Date:

Pakistani former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s health, as reported by his sons, is deteriorating and they fear not seeing their father ever again. They claimed that the former PTI founder was being kept in solitary confinement for two years, and was “psychologically tortured.”

“The conditions are not bad, they are awful… He has been in a solitary confinement cell for over two years, where he’s had filthy water, and he is around inmates who are dying of hepatitis. We are trying to have faith. It’s very hard to see a way out. We are now worried we might never see him again,” Kasim Khan said in the interview with Sky News.

In the interview with the sky news the sons told that the former Prime Minister was given filthy water and was tortured in death cell.

The sons also revealed that they have not had a conversation with the father for seven months and plan to visit Pakistan next month, as reported by the Hindustan Times.

“He is being held in completely substandard conditions that do not meet international legal standards for any prisoner,” the son said.

A United Nations official as reported by the Hindustan Times, last week reminded the Shehbaz Sharif-led government in Islamabad that prolonged or indefinite solitary confinement is prohibited under international human rights law, and urged it to take immediate corrective action.

However, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s spokesperson, Mosharraf Zaidi, rejected the allegations made by Imran Khan’s sons. Speaking to Sky News, Zaidi said the former prime minister had spent 860 days in prison and received 870 visits, even though he was entitled to only one visit per week.
