In a new development in the case of the doctor-turned-terrorist Umar un Nabi, the mastermind behind the recent Red Fort car blast that killed at least 13 individuals, a video of him talking about the “very misunderstood” concept of suicide has surfaced over the internet. He could be heard saying what is termed as a “suicide bombing” is actually a “martyrdom operation.”
“There are multiple arguments and contradictions that have been brought against it (suicide bombing). A martyrdom operation is when a person presumes that he is going to die for sure at a particular place at a particular time; he goes against the presumption that a particular person is going to die. He is going to die in a particular situation,” he said.
He could be seen sitting in front of the camera at a location that the investigators suspect to be his accommodation in Faridabad’s Al Falah School of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, where he was employed.
It is also believed that Umar was the most radicalized member of the “white collar” Faridabad terror module that planned the Red Fort blast. The module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad, a Pakistan-based terror group, allegedly included 10 members, including at least five doctors working at Al Falah University.
Haryana Police and Delhi Police unanimously suggest that the Red Fort bombing was planned at the college accommodation of the Al Falah University in Faridabad.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had identified Umar as a “suicide bomber” earlier this month; he drove the i20 car loaded with an improvised explosive device (IED), killing at least 13 people and injuring several others.
Investigations have linked Monday evening’s deadly attack to the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)—the same organization responsible for the 2019 Pulwama attack.
The bomb, containing an ammonium nitrate fuel oil mixture, had been concealed inside a Hyundai i20 parked near the Red Fort Metro Station. The explosion occurred as the car approached a traffic signal at low speed.
Political leaders across the nation have extended their condolences and vowed to take strict action against the perpetrators.
