Fifty people are reportedly missing after the incident of cloudburst in Shimal’s Rampur. The disaster management authority received information about a cloudburst near a hydroelectric power project at Samej Khad, said the district administration.
Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, “Cloudburst occurred in Mandi, Shimla and Kullu districts today. Around 50 people are missing, 2 bodies have been recovered…”
Earlier, Himachal Pradesh Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi stated that 36 people have been reported missing in the Samej area of Shimla district and eight have been reported missing in the Tikken area of Mandi district. Two bodies have been recovered.
“So far, 36 people have been reported missing in the Samej area of Shimla district. Similarly, 8 people are missing in the Tikken area of Mandi, 2 bodies have been recovered, and 1 is injured. In the Kullu area, the barrage of the power project in Malana has been breached, so people are also stranded, and the road connectivity is currently closed. The Chief Minister has called an emergency meeting… many bridges have been damaged,” said Jagat Singh Negi.
An order issued by Mandi deputy commissioner Apoor Devgan said that a cloudburst has taken place in Himachal’s Mandi too, about 125 km from Shimla.
“Under these circumstances, movement of staff, school and college children, and trainees may not be safe and should be restricted,” the Deputy Commissioner said, announcing that all educational institutions and vocational training centers in Padhar subdivision must remain shut.
Monsoon Fury in Uttarakhand
Monsoon has affected the normal life of people in Uttarakhand, two people died and another was injured after a cloudburst at Jakhanyali in Tehri Garhwal district. The deceased have been identified as Bhanu Prasad (50) and Anita Devi (45).
A spokesperson from State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) said that they received information about three people missing due to a cloudburst last night.
“During the search, SDRF recovered two bodies and found an injured person in a 200-metre-deep ditch. He was brought out on a stretcher,” the spokesperson said, according to an ANI report.
In Haridwar, two children died and nine others were reportedly injured when the roof of a dilapidated house collapsed after heavy rainfall, said an official.
The dead were identified as Aas Mohammed (10) and Nagma (8). District Magistrate Dhiraj Singh Garbyal told ANI that three people among the injured are in a critical condition. “The remaining are also hospitalized but are out of danger. This old house was in a dilapidated state, and heavy rain caused it to collapse,” he said.
