AAP Loses 2025 Delhi Election but Manages to Woo Muslim Majority and Dalit Constituencies

Date:

The Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party, despite not addressing significant public rallies in Muslim-majority areas, has won the victory in Muslim-majority constituencies. Even in the Okhla, where candidates like Shifa ur Rehman conducted heavy rallies with echoes of “Bimaar Okhla ko Shifa ki Zarurat hai” could not manage to win the crown. AAP secured victory in 8 out of 11 Muslim-concentrated seats, with Amanatullah Khan, Aaly Mohammad Iqbal, Imran Hussain, and Chaudhri Zubair managing to win the seat comfortably.

Like it did in 2020, The AAP had fielded Muslim candidates in five seats – Matia Mahal and Ballimaran in Central Delhi, Okhla in South East Delhi, and Seelampur and Mustafabad in North East Delhi

As per the data, in the Okhla constituency, AAP’s Amanatullah Khan emerged victorious, securing 88,943 votes and winning by a margin of 23,639 votes. BJP’s Manish Chaudhary finished in second place with 65,304 votes, while AIMIM’s Shafa Ur Rahman trailed in third with 39,558 votes.

In Matia Mahal, AAP’s Aal Mohammad Iqbal triumphed with a decisive victory, securing 58,120 votes and winning by a margin of 42,724 votes. BJP’s Deepthi Andora claimed the second spot with 15,396 votes, while former Congress MLA Asim Mohammad Khan placed third with 10,295 votes.

Ballimaran saw a closely contested race, but AAP’s Imran Hussain emerged victorious with a margin of 29,823 votes, garnering a total of 57,004 votes. BJP’s Kamal Bangdi secured the second spot with 27,181 votes, while Congress’ Haroon Yusuf finished third with 13,059 votes.

AAP’s Zubair Ahmad secured a commanding victory in Seelampur, winning by a margin of 42,477 votes and receiving a total of 79,009 votes. BJP’s Anil Kumar Sharma finished in second place with 36,532 votes, while Congress’ Abdul Rahman took third with 16,551 votes.

AAP’s Prernadeep Singh Sahni won the Chandni Chowk seat with a margin of 16,572 votes, securing a total of 38,993 votes. BJP’s Satish Jain finished in second place with 22,421 votes, while Congress’ Modit Aggarwal came third with 9,065 votes.

In Babarpur, AAP’s senior leader Gopal Rai claimed a decisive victory, securing 76,192 votes and winning by a margin of 18,994 votes. BJP’s Anil Kumar finished second with 57,198 votes, while Congress’ Mohammad Ishraq Khan took third with 8,797 votes.

In Sadar Bazar, AAP’s Som Dutt emerged victorious with a margin of 6,307 votes, securing a total of 56,177 votes. BJP’s Manoj Kumar Jindal finished second with 49,870 votes, while Congress’ Anil Bhardwaj took third place with 10,057 votes.

In Seemapuri, AAP’s Vir Singh Dhangan secured victory with a margin of 10,368 votes. BJP’s Kumari Rinku, who had led at various stages of the counting, finished in second place with 55,985 votes, while Congress’ Rajesh came third with 11,823 votes.

It is also imperative to note that, while only 16 Muslim candidates contested the 2020 elections, this time the number was twice with the emergence of smaller parties like AIMIM and BSP selecting candidates from the community.

AAP in Dalit Constituencies

The party delivered a strong performance in constituencies reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs), securing 8 out of the 12 SC-reserved seats. In contrast, the BJP managed to win 4 of these seats, despite fielding 14 Dalit candidates in the election.

However, in all 12 seats, AAP saw its vote share slip to both the BJP and Congress. In Seemapuri, located in Northeast Delhi, AAP’s vote share dropped significantly from an impressive 65.8% in 2020 to 48.4% in 2025, though the party managed to retain the seat.

Similarly, in Karol Bagh, AAP’s vote share fell from 62.2% in 2020 to 50.8% in 2025. In Patel Nagar, the drop was from 60.8% in 2020 to 49% this time around.

However, AAP’s biggest setbacks came in Bawana, Madipur, Mangolpuri, and Trilokpuri, all of which were claimed by the BJP. In Bawana, AAP’s vote share dropped from 48.4% to 38.3%, with nearly all the lost votes shifting to the BJP. In Mangolpuri, AAP experienced a 13% decline, while BJP saw a 16% increase, enabling its candidate Rajkumar Chauhan to secure victory.
