After Five Years, Six Accused Cleared in Delhi Riot Case

Date:

In new developments in the 2020 Delhi riots case, the Karkardoona Court in Delhi ordered the release of six arrested in the case, who had spent the past five years in jail without proven charges. Those acquainted include Gulzar, Shahzad, Wajid, Sajid, Shahbaz, and Salim. The court said that the Delhi Police had failed to present concrete evidence to prove the allegations put against them.

Following the verdict, the families of the accused voiced immense relief and happiness.

They expressed gratitude to Maulana Mahmood Madani, noting that the Jamiat’s legal team had stood by them for five years and restored their confidence during moments of despair.

They also extended their thanks to the court for ensuring justice was served.

The court in its verdict said that the accusations were fragile and unsupported, leading to unjustified imprisonment of these men. “No substantial evidence was placed before us. The prosecution could not prove guilt beyond doubt,” court officials stated.

The judge said that since the allegations were not proven, all of the above-mentioned people will, without any conditions, be honorably acquitted.

Legal and humanitarian help has been offered by the Jamiat Ulama e Hind for the case, helping 600 people to secure bail. Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind is currently fighting 267 riot cases, and more than 100 accused have been acquitted.

The ongoing legal proceedings are being overseen by Maulana Niaz Ahmed Farooqui on behalf of the Jamiat.

Previously, under the leadership of Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi, the Jamiat reconstructed 165 damaged houses, carried out repairs on 11 mosques, and restored 274 shops—including the well-known tire market in Gokalpuri, Deccan Live reports.
