Mother of 3 Brutally Tortured Before Being Set Ablaze in Manipur’s Jiribam: Autopsy Report

Date:

The autopsy report of a 31-year-old mother of three who was set ablaze in Manipur’s Jiribam reveals that she was tortured to degree three before she was allegedly raped and was set on fire, as reported by The Times of India.

As per the FIR registered by the police in Jiribam, her husband states that she was “brutally raped,” allegedly by armed militants from the Imphal Valley. But the doctors from the forensic department from Silchar Medical College and Hospitals in Assam who conducted the postmortem could not collect a “vaginal smear,” and her body was beyond recognizable.

The Times of India further reports that the woman was brutally burned and was found with 99% of her body. Her bone fragments were also burned. The autopsy reveals “a wound in the back of the right thigh” and a “metallic nail embedded in the medial aspect of the left thigh.” The report also highlights that “the right upper limb, parts of both lower limbs, and the facial structure are missing.”

The autopsy findings further reveal that the woman was alive when she was exposed to the third-degree torture. After that, the militants allegedly raped her and set her home on fire.

‘Barbaric’ Killing

As stated by the Manipur Police, her body was sent to Silchar instead of the state capital. The Manipur Police further states that it was “very much inconvenient to transport the body by road via National Highway-37 due to the ongoing ethnic crisis” in the northeastern state.

The Kuki-Zo tribal organization heavily criticized the woman’s killing and labeled it “barbaric” and further called for security forces to identify the killers.
