Owaisi slams NDA over Waqf Bill, says, “We will never forgive you”

Date:

All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) President Asaduddin Owaisi strongly criticized NDA allies, including Chandrababu Naidu, Nitish Kumar, Chirag Paswan, and Jayant Chaudhary, accusing them of facilitating the BJP’s efforts to target Muslim institutions. He further warned that the Muslim community would “never forgive” their actions.

Speaking at a public meeting, Owaisi remarked, “Chandrababu Naidu, Nitish Kumar, Chirag Paswan, and Jayant Chaudhary, remember, we will never forgive you. You are enabling the BJP to attack our Shariat. If these four leaders oppose the Waqf Bill, it won’t be introduced, but you are allowing the BJP to dismantle our mosques and Waqf properties.”

Owaisi criticized the Centre over the proposed Waqf Bill, stating, “Following the directive of AIMPLB, we are wearing black bands in protest against the Waqf Bill. With this Bill, Narendra Modi is firing bullets at our chests, at our mosques, and at our dargahs.”

He raised concerns about the government’s motives behind the legislation, saying, “When Hindu temple committees can have only Hindu members, how can a non-Muslim be part of the Waqf Board? When Gurudwaras can have only Sikh members, how can we allow a non-Muslim to be a member here? What kind of justice is this?”

He questioned the government’s intentions behind the legislation, stating, “If Hindu temple committees can have only Hindu members, then how can a non-Muslim be part of the Waqf Board? If Gurudwaras can have only Sikh members, how can we allow a non-Muslim to be a member here? What kind of justice is this?”

Earlier on Friday, Muslims across India held a peaceful protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill by wearing black armbands during the Alvida Namaz.

The wearing of black armbands was a symbolic gesture to express opposition to the Waqf Amendment Bill and assert their voices in the democratic process. Muslim leaders also participated in the protest. In Hyderabad, AIMIM chief and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who is also a member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Bill, joined the demonstration, wearing a black armband while offering prayers on Friday.

Sharing a letter on X, the AIMPLB stated, “The strong protests by Muslims at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and Dharna Sthal in Patna have at least created a stir among BJP’s allied parties. A massive protest is now also scheduled to take place in Vijayawada on March 29, 2025.”

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has raised alarms over a proposed bill, labeling it a “sinister conspiracy” designed to strip Muslims of control over their religious and charitable institutions.
