Tensions flared in Hyderabad’s Balapur after Hindu right-wing activists staged a dharna outside Madarsa Noomania, which functions inside the historic Masjid-e-Hussaini.
The protest, spearheaded by BJP leader Ramkrishna Reddy, accused the madrasa of running without permission for the past seven years. Demonstrators chanted “Jai Shri Ram” and demanded immediate closure of the institution.
Allegations of Rohingya Presence
Addressing reporters, Reddy claimed that Rohingya Muslims were residing in the madrasa and causing “hardships” for Hindus in the locality. The protesters withdrew after ACP Janakiram Reddy reached the spot and promised to look into their concerns.
Madrasa Denies Claims
Rejecting the accusations, madrasa in-charge Akbar Khan said the BJP was spreading misinformation. “All students here are from Telangana. This narrative of illegality is completely false and has been pushed for months now,” he clarified.
Locals expressed unease over the developments, fearing that the protests were designed to upset the area’s peace. Resident Mohammed Riyas described it as a “deliberate attempt to disrupt communal harmony.”
MBT Slams Police Inaction
Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT) leader Amjed Ullah Khan strongly condemned the protest, accusing Balapur Police of remaining passive during the sloganeering. After meeting the Inspector, he demanded action against BJP leaders. “Why was no one taken into custody? Why hasn’t an FIR been filed?” he asked.
