In a new development in Agra Airport and Cantonment Railway Station bomb-threatening attack, the Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested 21-year-old Gopesh, a resident of Dholpur, Rajasthan.
Gopesh sent a threatening email to blow up Agra Airport and Railway Station with 50 kg of RDX. He reportedly stole neighbour Ahmed’s phone, created an email account in Ahmed’s name (KAhemed436@gmail.com), and sent the bomb threat to the Uttar Pradesh Police control room on July 30. Earlier, he sent similar emails to police in Shimla and Delhi. Gopesh intended to portray that Ahmed sent these emails and hoped the police would arrest him, but no action was taken.
Gopesh believed that the UP Police would respond to it more aggressively, so he sent a threatening email to them. However, when Agra commissioner Suraj Rai conducted the probe, later on it was revealed that Ahmed was innocent and Gopesh had hatched the plot to frame Ahmed for allegedly harassing Gopesh’s sister on a social media platform.
An Email Tightened the Security
Gopesh sent the email to Agra Airport and Cantonment Railway Station, and immediately security measures were tightened at both places. Reportedly, Agra Police, along with the Special Task Force (STF), rushed to both spots and conducted a thorough search operation.
Earlier to this, he sent an anonymous email to Lucknow Police Headquarters, claiming that 50 kilograms of RDX would be placed at Agra Airport on August 3, followed by an explosion at the railway station.
In addition to this, the sender sent the email to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister to thwart the attacks if possible.
Upon receiving the threat, police headquarters promptly notified the Agra Commissionerate of immediate and extensive security enhancements at both the airport and the railway station. Meanwhile, Shahganj Police Station registered a case against unidentified individuals and immediately initiated a thorough investigation into the origin of the email.
In addition to this, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and STF immediately took action to track the ID.
