In a bus accident in Akhnoor, Jammu, 21 people are reported to be dead and 69 injured. Officials informed us that the bus carrying pilgrims was on its way to Hathras in Uttar Pradesh from the Shiv Khori area of Reasi district when it fell into a gorge.
The bus is said to have fallen at least 200 meters deep, resulting in serious repercussions. Immediately after the accident, the rescue team sprang into action, and the injured were evacuated to the hospital.
The injured have been shifted to the Akhnoor Hospital and Government Medical College (GMC) hospitals in Jammu. Block Medical Officer Akhnoor, Muhammad Saleem Khan, told Kashmir News Observer that 21 were brought dead to the hospital and around 69 were injured. “The critically injured have been referred to GMC Jammu for specialized treatment,” he said.
“The first casualties have been received by CSE Akhnoor. They have informed us that they will send around 20-25 patients, out of which 16 patients have already been received. This was a tourist vehicle, and these people (passengers) are not from Jammu, they are from outside,” said Narinder Singh, Medical Superintendent, Government Medical College, Jammu.
The Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha, has expressed his deep anguish over the loss of lives in the tragic bus accident. He said, “The bus accident in Akhnoor, Jammu, is heartbreaking. I condole the loss of lives and pray to the Almighty to give the bereaved families the strength to bear the irreparable loss. I am praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. The administration is providing all possible assistance to the bereaved families and is also extending medical facilities to those who have been injured,” he said in a post on X.
Last week, another accident took place in Akhnoor, where ten people were injured, including six women and a two-year-old girl.
