The Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) has launched a set of dedicated helplines across several Indian states to help citizens during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of the Election Commission of India (ECI). This initiative aims to make the voter list revision process easier and more accessible, especially for people from marginalized or rural communities who often face difficulties in completing official procedures.
The SIR process is an important exercise carried out by the ECI to keep electoral rolls accurate and up to date. However, many citizens find it confusing or struggle with the paperwork and verification steps involved. To address this, APCR’s new helplines will provide guidance on how to fill out SIR forms correctly, what documents are required, and how to contact the local Booth Level Officer (BLO) for verification or further assistance.
The helplines will be open every day from 11 AM to 8 PM, and citizens can reach out for help by calling +91 99530 92298, +91 95686 12393, or +91 92201 35155. The initiative is currently active in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and several other states where the revision process is ongoing.
APCR said the purpose of the helplines is to make sure that every eligible voter can take part in the democratic process without being held back by confusion or lack of information.
“With the preparation of the new voter list underway, protecting every eligible citizen’s right to vote is more important than ever. There has been growing public concern about voter inclusion and fairness, and this helpline is our effort to ensure people have clear information and support throughout the SIR process,” Nadeem Khan, National Secretary APCR, said while talking to FoEJ Media.
The organization also made it clear that its volunteers will only provide information based on publicly available data and ECI guidelines. APCR will not fill out forms on anyone’s behalf or guarantee that a person’s name will be included in the voter list.
The project is supported by the SPECT Research Association, which has helped with data and coordination. The two organizations hope to make the voter registration process smoother and ensure that every citizen who is eligible to vote can do so.
The Special Summary Revision (SIR) refers to a comprehensive and intensive overhaul of electoral rolls undertaken by the Election Commission of India under its constitutional and statutory mandate. Typically initiated ahead of high-stakes elections or when voter lists have remained largely static for years, the process involves multiple rigorous steps: distribution of fresh enumeration forms, door-to-door verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs), scrutiny of documents, removal of ineligible entries, and inclusion of previously omitted voters.
The Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) India is a non-governmental organization committed to defending and promoting civil liberties across the country. Focusing on marginalized and vulnerable groups, including minorities and women, the association works to combat discrimination and social injustice. Through awareness campaigns, legal aid, advocacy, and educational initiatives, APCR India strives to empower citizens with knowledge of their rights and provide avenues for redress. By tackling human rights violations and promoting equality, the organization plays a crucial role in upholding the principles of democracy and the rule of law in India.
