Ayush Malik, who made headlines recently for converting to Islam for the woman he was in a relationship with, has returned to Hinduism following the ongoing criminal cases linked to the conversion. He said he took the decision after seeing the distress he had caused to his parents.
The decision he announced through a video circulating on social media in which he is seen performing Hindu rituals at his residence along with his parents.
Initially the video shows him saying he had embraced Islam for a woman he loved but now has decided to return to Hinduism, as the former decision caused pain to his parents.
“I had embraced Islam and changed my religion. But after seeing your pain and thinking about my family, I have, of my own free will, returned to Hinduism,” he can be heard saying in the video.
The conversion was confirmed by Yashveer Maharaj, Yog Sadhana Ashram who had raised the issue publicly
“Ajay Malik has returned to the Hindu faith and has resumed worship at his home. He also removed all articles associated with the Muslim faith from his house,” Yashveer Maharaj said.
Ayush had been following Islam since 2008 and said that he had married Chandi Qureshi, a resident of Shamli, through a nikah ceremony that took place in Delhi. He kept his conversion and marriages a secret from family, as his sisters are yet to be married.
Chandni and her father, Islam Qureshi, were later arrested and sent to jail on the complaint based on Ayush’s family. In total, police arrested four people, and the FIR named nine people under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita covering extortion, cheating, forgery, and criminal intimidation alongside the anti-conversion law. The investigation is underway.
In the complaint, Ayush’s father, Devraj Malik, said his son had converted to Islam years ago to marry Chandni Qureshi.
Devaraj Malik claimed that the conversion was a part of a larger conspiracy to gain control of the family’s crore-worth property.
