Five members of a family were found dead under suspicious circumstances on Friday at their residence in Delhi’s Rangpuri area. The deceased included a father and his four daughters, with their bodies discovered by the police around 10:30 AM.

Police suspect poisoning and believe, based on initial investigations, that the father may have given poison to his daughters before consuming it himself. The exact sequence of events will be determined following a detailed post-mortem report and further investigation.

The Incident

The incident came to light when the building’s caretaker noticed a foul smell coming from the family’s residence. After receiving no response to his knocks, he alerted the building owner, Nitin Chauhan. Nitin then contacted the Vasant Kunj South police station, reporting that something seemed wrong.

When the police arrived, they found the door locked from the inside and had to break it down to gain entry. Inside, they discovered the bodies of 46-year-old Heeralal Sharma and his daughters: Neetu (26), Nikki (24), Neeru (23), and Nidhi (20).

According to neighbors, Heeralal, a carpenter, had been struggling since his wife’s death from cancer a year ago. CCTV footage shows him entering the house on September 24, after which the door remained locked from the inside.

Heeralal’s brother, Mohan Sharma, mentioned that Heeralal lost interest in family matters after his wife’s death and was solely focused on his daughters’ medical treatment. The girls rarely left their rooms. The family was last seen by neighbors on September 24. Among the daughters, one was visually impaired, and another had mobility issues, further compounding the family’s struggles.

There were no visible injury marks on the bodies. However, police discovered three packets of insecticide, five glasses, and a suspicious liquid inside the house. An investigation has been initiated to uncover further details about the incident.
