Delivery Boy Attacked by Unidentified Assailants in Hyderabad

Date:

A delivery worker was allegedly assaulted late Tuesday in what police suspect to be a hate-motivated attack in the city’s Moghalpura area.

The victim, identified as Muhammad Nadeem, a resident of Talab Katta, was en route to deliver a parcel in Sultanpur Shahi when two unidentified men reportedly stopped him, asked his name, and began beating him. Locals intervened and took him to Osmania Hospital, where he was treated for multiple injuries, police said.

Following a complaint filed by Nadeem’s family, Moghalpura Police registered a case under Sections 117(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against unknown assailants. An investigation is underway to identify the attackers.

The assault has created outrage among local residents and rights activists, who say the incident reflects a disturbing rise in hate crimes targeting Muslims and other minorities across India.

Over the past few years, civil rights organisations have documented numerous cases of mob assaults, lynchings, and targeted harassment allegedly motivated by religious identity. Human rights groups have also accused law enforcement agencies of inadequate responses and, in some instances, complicity in such abuses.

In one recent case from Uttar Pradesh, a minor Muslim boy was allegedly subjected to custodial torture after police detained him for reportedly using a mosque loudspeaker to announce the reopening of his father’s chicken shop.

Rights defenders have urged the government to take stronger measures to combat religiously motivated violence and to ensure justice and protection for victims of hate crimes.
