Family Alleges Police Murder After Youth Dies in Custody in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur

A youth died under suspicious circumstances while in police custody in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, sparking protests from his family and local villagers at the police station. The family has accused the police of beating him to death.

The deceased has been identified as Shivam Jha, a resident of Kalwari Chandrabhawan village in the Kantti police station jurisdiction.

The incident unfolded after Shivam’s arrest on motorcycle theft charges. Police state that he, along with several associates, was being questioned when he allegedly died by suicide in the lock-up.

A police spokesperson stated, “Shivam was arrested a few days ago on charges of bike theft, and he took his own life during questioning.”

Upon hearing the news, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sushil Kumar, Rural SP Vidya Sagar, and Deputy SP (West) Abhishek Anand swiftly arrived at the station to address the growing crowd and restore order.

“We are here to speak with the angry protesters and assure them that the investigation will be thorough,” SSP Sushil Kumar said. The police maintain that the death was a suicide, but the family insists that the police are responsible. “Shivam died in custody, and the police are to blame for it,” the family claim

Authorities have launched an investigation, with an FSL team set to visit the scene for further analysis. The body will undergo a post-mortem examination.

A heavy police presence has been established at the station, and efforts are underway to maintain control of the situation.
