Roshan Khatoon lynching case: Family to move Patna High Court against bail of accused Manganoo Singh

Date:

The family of Roshan Khatoon, who succumbed to her injuries on following a brutal assault in Bihar’s Madhubani district during the month of Ramadan, has decided to challenge the bail granted to the prime accused, Maganoo Singh, by moving to Patna High Court.

Khatoon, a resident of Amhi village under Ghodhardiha block, was reportedly attacked on February 25 by a group of men led by the village head’s son during a local dispute. The incident stemmed from when Khatoon went to the residence of the village head, Kumari Devi, to resolve the dispute.

Soon an attempt to resolve the issue snowballed into violence, leading to an onslaught on Khatoon. She was beaten for a significant period of time, and when she fell unconscious, Khatoon was dragged outside the house, tied to the gate of it, and then another set of attacks was launched on her.

Khatoon was fasting, and when she could not bear the assault, she asked for water. However, what she was given was a mixture of alcohol and urine. Following the assault, Khatoon was admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on March 1st.

Ahead of the incident, Manganoo Singh, the only person arrested among 19 named in the FIR, was granted bail on Tuesday, earlier this month.

“It hasn’t even been two months since he was arrested and Manganu has been granted bail. What kind of justice is this?” Khatoon’s brother-in-law, Shamsher Mansoori, said while talking to FoEJ Media

“We will have to move forward for justice, we will go to Patna High Court, we have to get justice,” he added.

“As soon as Manganu Singh came out, there was so much celebration, firecrackers burst, he was garlanded,”he added.

As the news of the release of Manganoo Singh got wind in the village, “Manganoo Singh Zindabaad” hovered in the air. His family applied colors and garlanded him with firecrackers, lighting the sky.

Soon social media was also buzzing with the celebration, with Singh’s images and videos making rounds and garnering praise from his supporters.
