Around 200 bikes turned into ashes as a massive fire broke out at the Varanasi railway station parking yard of railway employees. The blaze is believed to have been caused by a short circuit, which then quickly spread across the bikes at the Cantonment Railway Station in Varanasi on late Friday night.

The visuals making rounds on the social media platforms show a huge first in the parking area, burning many vehicles, turning them into ashes. The video also shows people throwing water at the blaze  to extinguish it.

As per the officials, around 12 fire brigade vehicles reached the spot to end the fire, along with teams of  Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local police team.

The eyewitnesses said that a short circuit happened at around 10:30 pm. People came to fix it but another short circuit happened a few hours later and then the massive fire occurred.

Short Circuit Caused Massive Blaze

According to the prime investigation, the fire was caused due to a short circuit.

“There were some cycles too that have been burnt…The fire was due to a short circuit. We are conducting further investigation,” CO GRP Kunwar Bahadur Singh said.

Most of the vehicles  that were turned into ashes  were of the railway employees, officials said.

“I parked my bike around 12 am…One of the people near the vehicle parking told me that one short circuit had already taken place around 11 pm and was fixed. After a few hours, one passenger told me that there was a huge fire outside. I took out my bike and parked it on the other side…Soon after, the fire had spread across the parking lot,” a railway employee said.

The fire was put out after two hours, officials added.
