Ahead of defeating Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee in the West Bengal Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party leader Suvendu Adhikari made a communal remark.
“Nandigram ka Hindu janta phir mujhe jitaya. Waha musalmaan vote pura ka pura TMC ko mila. Yeh log bhot kattarvadi hai. Mai Nandigram ke Hindu ke liye kaam karunga (The Hindu people of Nandigram have elected me once again). There, the entire Muslim vote went to the TMC. They are highly radicalized, so I am fine with my mark. I will work for the Hindus of Nandigram,” Adhikari said, talking to reporters.
Adhikari has emerged victorious in the prestige battleground in the state election against TMC.
TMC Chief Mamta also lost the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency to Adhikari, drawing a margin of 15,105 votes. “Muslims voted for Mamata Banerjee, who wears a hijab,” the BJP leader said.
“Within 24 hours, TMC will be destroyed. It has no ideology whatsoever,” he added.
“Muslims voted for her openly. In Ward No. 77, all the Muslims who came out to vote voted for Mamata, while Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists blessed me and made me win,” the leader said.
“This victory is a victory for Hindutva, a victory for Bengal, and this victory is a victory for Modi ji. Mamata Banerjee’s political retirement has begun,” Adhikari said.
Suvendu Adhikari’s Political Journey
Suvendu Adhikari is a senior Indian politician and a key leader in West Bengal politics. He began his political journey with the Indian National Congress but later joined the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), where he became a close associate of Mamata Banerjee. Adhikari rose to prominence through his leadership role in the Nandigram Movement, which significantly boosted the AITC’s political position in the state.
He served in various ministerial positions in the West Bengal government, handling important departments like transport and irrigation. Known for his strong organizational skills and grassroots connection, he became one of the most influential leaders in the party. However, in December 2020, he left the AITC and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking a major shift in state politics.
In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Adhikari contested from Nandigram and defeated Mamata Banerjee in a high-profile contest. Following this victory, he was appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, playing a crucial role in state politics.
