Jamshedpur: The peaceful locality of Shastri Nagar in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur was thrown into disarray after an alleged desecration of a religious flag sparked a violent confrontation between two groups. The situation quickly escalated, leading to arson and brick-batting in the area. As the situation worsened, authorities imposed Prohibitory Orders under Section 144 of CrPC to restore law and order in the area.
According to police officials, members of RSS and Bajrang Dal allegedly found a piece of meat tagged to the Mahaviri flag of Hanuman Jatadhari Akhada, leading to brickbat and arsoning between the two groups on Sunday afternoon.
Several Hindu organizations were protesting and demanding that the police arrest the culprits within 24 hours. Besides, they also demanded that meat sellers be the immediately removed from the streets and marketplaces. The situation turned violent on late Sunday evening.
Two shops and an auto-rickshaw were set on fire, causing damage to property and disrupting peace in the area. However, with swift action, authorities controlled the situation, and no casualties were reported.
East Singhbhum district Deputy Commissioner, Vijaya Jadhav, urged citizens not to pay heed to canards or share inflammatory posts on social media.
DIG (Kolhan) Ajay Linda further stated that stringent action will be initiated against those who indulged in anti-social activities to disturb communal harmony.
It is unfortunate that incidents like these have become a common occurrence in our country, where so-called dharm protectors use any excuse to create chaos and violence.
In these testing times, where people are quick to take the law into their own hands and resort to violence to assert their beliefs, the authorities must take strict measures to prevent such incidents from happening in the future and ensure that communal harmony is preserved.
