In a latest tiktok trend, the ‘Letter to the American people’, written by Osama bin Laden, the notorious terrorist leader who masterminded the 9/11 attacks has resurfaced amid ongoing Israel-Palestine war.

Tik-Tokers have discovered this letter, which was addressed to the American people, and tries to justify the horrific attacks and blames the US for supporting Israel and ongoing oppression of Palestine.

According to a news website, TikTok user Lynette Adkins said in a video posted on Tuesday, “I need everyone to stop what they’re doing right now and go read — it’s literally two pages — go read ‘A Letter to America’ (the text by Osama).”

“I feel like I’m having an existential crisis right now, and so are many others. I need someone else to relate to this,” she continued.

The letter became a sensation and many TikTokers described it as “incredibly eye-opening” and “mind-blowing” and encouraged their followers to read the letter.

“I had no idea this letter existed. It’s crazy and everyone should read it…this has left me disillusioned…I feel a little bit confused, like I have entered a different timeline,” said another TikTok user.

The Gen Z population who were unaware of the letter’s existence and its content expressed a great deal of surprise and astonishment. Not only were Gen Z stunned, their apparent support for Osama bin Laden’s ideas also shocked many others.

The letter, which mentions Palestine several times, seems to have struck a chord with GenZ social media users, who are expressing sympathy and agreement with bin Laden’s views. Some even called it a “manifesto” that justified “resistance” against a “hostile power”. However, the videos have spread across other social media platforms too, sparking outrage among many who are condemning the glorification of Bin Laden, a terrorist.

The letter was first published in 2002 by The Guardian, a British newspaper, but it resurfaced recently amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas, a militant group that controls the Gaza Strip.

Hamas launched a massive rocket attack on Israel on October 7, killing 1,400 civilians and kidnapping over 200. Soon after, Israel retaliated with airstrikes and ground operations, killing over 11,000 people in Gaza, according to local health officials.

The Guardian, however, decided to remove the letter from its website on November 15, 2023, without giving any explanation. This move only fueled more interest and curiosity in the letter, as well as conspiracy theories that the media and the authorities were trying to silence the truth. Some journalists and experts have criticized The Guardian for deleting the letter, saying that it was a historical document that should be preserved and analyzed.

The letter is still available on other websites and reveals bin Laden’s twisted logic and hatred for the US and its allies. It also shows his ignorance and hypocrisy, as he accuses the US of crimes that he and his followers have committed, such as killing innocent people, and violating human rights. The letter ends with a chilling warning that the US will “pay for its arrogance with the blood of its citizens”.

In May 2011, Osama bin Laden was killed in a daring night raid by US army SEAL team in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
