The first Monsoon Session of Parliament under the NDA government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, commences on Monday, July 22, following their historic third consecutive term victory. In the afternoon, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Economic Survey in Parliament, a day before she is set to present the Union Budget.
The united opposition is set to corner the NDA government on issues ranging from the NEET paper leak case to the row over the directive by the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments asking eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display their owners’ names.
However, at the start of Parliament’s Monsoon session on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra shared his thoughts on Monsoon sessions, criticised the opposition for disrupting previous sessions, and called on lawmakers from all political parties to work together for the nation’s progress over the next five years.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned certain parties for engaging in negative politics, accusing them of using Parliament’s time to cover up their failures. He claimed that opposition parties attempted to silence him during the last session, stating that such tactics are undemocratic.
“…You must have seen that in the first session of Parliament, an attempt was made to stifle the voice of the government that has been elected with a majority by 140 crore people of the country. For 2.5 hours, an attempt was made to suppress the voice of the Prime Minister. They tried to not let me speak in Parliament in the last session. The people of the country have sent us for the country and not for the party. This Parliament is for the country, not for the party,” Modi said while addressing a customary address at the start of a Parliament session.
On the eve of the Union Budget presentation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the budget would chart the course for the next five years and establish the foundation for realising the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.
Modi said his government is moving forward to implement on the ground the guarantees he has given to the people.
“This is the budget session. The guarantees that I have been giving, we are moving forward to implement those guarantees on the ground,” he said.
“This Budget is an important Budget of the Amrit Kaal. The opportunity of five years that we have, this budget will decide the direction of that journey as well as lay the foundation for fulfilling the dream of Viksit Bharat in 2047,” Modi said.
He added that the budget session is a significant milestone in the proud journey of our democracy, noting that it marks the first time in 60 years a government has been re-elected for a third term.
“Today is the first Monday of Sawan. An important session is starting on this auspicious day. I extend my greetings to the countrymen on the first Monday of Sawan. The monsoon session of Parliament is starting today. Today, the whole country is looking at it. This should be a positive session,” Modi said.
Modi also said the budget session is an important destination in “our democracy’s proud journey.”.
