Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur has found itself in controversy as the posters saying “Muslims Prohibited” were held up at the Goga Madadi religious site. The posters were reportedly held up around the Ganga Sarovar (pond) area, which is under the Goga Mahadi complex, by members of the Goga Mahadi Sudhar Sabha.
The reports state that the posters surfaced following a campaign by the Goga Mahadi Sudhar Sabha, pressing authorities to take measures to maintain the sanctity and cleanliness of the religious site.
Meanwhile, Anil Pratap Saini, chairman of the Goga Mahadi Sudhar Sabha, stated that the decision was taken following complaints by devotees, which allegedly took place within the complex.
“We intend to maintain the sanctity of the religious place,” Saini said.
“The purpose of these posters is to protect the dignity and sanctity of the religious site,” he said.
He further said that visitors from outside the community carried non-vegetarian food onto the premises. Along with that, littered the area and approached idols with footwear. Anil Pratap Saini claimed that it hurt the sentiments of devotees.
Saini said that the organization had also staged a protest over these concerns.
Saini further reported that the discussion occurred with the administration, and agreement was reached on several demands. A few among the demands were the installation of barricades around the pond and idols and a restriction to be put on bringing outside food onto the premises.
Meanwhile, official statements have not been issued by Shahranpur’s district authorities to either confirm or question the legality.
Goga Mahadi is an important spiritual destination that is visited by the devotees throughout the year. The temple is in association with local traditions, devoted gatherings, and cultural activities that are connected to the region.
