Bones of a human purported to be of Sheena Bora, which suddenly had gone missing from CBI’s storeroom in Mumbai, have been found in the agency’s malkhana (record room) in Delhi.
The development in the case came after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday told the trial court of the whereabouts of the skeletal remains during a hearing on the Sheena bora case.
The case unfolded when a trial court received an email and a hard copy from a person claiming that the forensic expert Dr Zeba Khan’s brother, who alleged that Sheena’s bones had not gone missing but were in her possession.
CBI judge SP Naik Nimbalkar informed the court about the email. The email also alleged that Zeba had suddenly accumulated wealth.
Allegedly forensic expert in Sheena Bora murder case “received crores to lie.” The report further alleges that Zeba lied about Sheena’s remains being missing and that she has lately purchased a house and a clinic in Dubai, apparently from the money acquired from lying. It also claimed that Zeba and the accused could be behind the evidence suddenly vanishing.
The report was presented to three defence lawyers, Ranjit Singh, Manjula Rao and Shreyansh Mithare representing accused Indrani Mukerjea, Peter Mukerjea and Sanjeev Khanna, respectively.
The allegations were serious and needed to be investigated, the judge said. However, the defence lawyer said that the action should be taken against the person who sent the email for misleading the court. Responding to the defence lawyer the court said it was up to the CBI to do so. The accused’s lawyers also sought that the bones be produced in court, but the judge said the exercise would be futile as the CBI was not relying on it.
Meanwhile, CBI special public prosecutor CJ Nanode went to malkhan proceeding the hearing on Wednesday and returned to the court later in a day to say that the bones were lying in the record but the CBI Will not rely on the evidence.
IS CBI AND Its Storeroom Reliable?
The case of Sheena Bora questions the reliability of CBI and its storeroom. The skeleton of Sheena bora that was under strict observation suddenly went missing and was later found in the agency’s malkhana (record room) in Delhi raises questions about the reliability of the CBI.
Earlier during the Aarushi Talwar murder case the cbi was heavily criticised for allegedly not taking the proper measures to protect the evidence which hindered the case to be resolved..
The Case
Sheena Bora was allegedly strangled to death in a car by her mother Indrani Mukerje and driver Shyamvar Rai in April 2012 in Mumbai. Then 25 year old Sheena bora’s body was allegedly transported to Raigad district and set ablaze. In August 2015, Mumbai Police apprehended Indrani Mukerjea, Sanjeev Khanna and Shyamvar Rai for the alleged murder. Later Indrani’s husband was also arrested for allegedly being involved in the conspiracy.
Reportedly chattered remains of a bone, skull and teeth were found and the DNA confirmed that the remains were of Sheena Bora. In 2024, the CBI informed the trial court that the skeletal remains which were previously declared missing from their storeroom in Mumbai had reappeared. However, the CBI no longer intends to rely on the bones as evidence
