Amid a massive diplomatic tension is going on between India and Canada which has resulted in the expulsion of diplomats on both sides: Trudeau’s blasphemous accusations and allegations on India has also been facing problems within his country as a few legislations are ‘unhappy’ with him and demanding not to return for the fourth term.
Trudeau’s Downfall?
The Canadian legislators are dissatisfied with PM Justin Trudeau and want him to rethink his commitment to stay on as Prime Minister.
Amid a diplomatic row with India, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau has been facing dissatisfaction from the legislators; several Liberals wanted Trudeau to rethink his commitment to stay on as the Prime Minister. After nine years in power, Prime Minister Trudeau’s popularity has declined, with several anti-Trudeau MPs reportedly holding secret meetings to rally support against the Canadian leader.
Meanwhile Trudeau said Liberals are “strong and United” after meeting with Liberal members of Parliament for three hours. However, three Liberals said they were among a total of 20 plus lawmakers from the party to have signed a letter demanding to step down before the elections.
“He has to start listening, listening to the people,” said Ken McDonald, a Liberal Member of Parliament from Newfoundland who said he signed the letter, which has not been made public.
The document signed by the MPs demands that Prime Minister Trudeau decide on his political future by Oct. 28, warning of unspecified consequences if he fails to do so.
Several lawmakers from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s own Liberal Party urged him on Wednesday not to seek a fourth term, presenting him with one of the greatest challenges of his political career. Despite previously stating his intention to run again, Trudeau did not take questions from reporters following the meeting. No Canadian prime minister has secured four consecutive terms in over a century.
Trudeau’s Liberal Party recently faced setbacks in special elections, losing long-held districts in Toronto and Montreal. These defeats have fueled doubts about Trudeau’s leadership and his party’s future under his guidance.
Trudeau’s Blasphemous Accusations
Diplomatic tensions between Canada and India have intensified following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations concerning the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a key figure in the Khalistani movement. Trudeau accused the Indian government of involvement in Nijjar’s killing, which occurred in June 2023 outside a gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia. India has strongly denied these allegations and has repeatedly requested evidence to substantiate Trudeau’s claims.
Trudeau’s accusations surfaced amid increased scrutiny regarding foreign interference in Canada. He asserted that Canadian intelligence agencies were investigating potential Indian involvement in Nijjar’s assassination, describing it as a “credible allegation” of foreign interference and a violation of Canadian sovereignty. However, recent testimonies indicated that Trudeau acknowledged the absence of “hard evidentiary proof” to support his claims, noting that they were primarily grounded in intelligence reports rather than verifiable evidence.
