After the Center notified the students of the CAA and declared its implementation, Jamia students organized a press conference on the university campus, which led to

Since yesterday, heavy forces have been deployed around Jamia Millia Islamia and nearby localities.

Jamia students werea big part of the uprisings against CAA and NRC in 2019. The protest stood for more than three months, from December 2019 to March 2020, and later called off due to COVID-19.

On March 12, the protest was organized by different student organizations of JMI. Students have announced that this is the beginning of protests, and we will continue the fight against this undemocratic law.

Speaking to PTI, Jamia Acting Vice-Chancellor Eqbal Hussain said, “We have tightened security arrangements to avoid any kind of agitation on the campus. No protest against the CAA will be allowed by students or outsiders near the campus.”

The demands various organizations such as AIRSO, AISA, AISF, DISSC, SFI, SFD, etc. have put forward are:

1: Repeal CAA

2. Release all students booked in the anti-CAA movement and withdraw all the charges against the students and people.

3. Demilitarize the campus

The students are demanding the immediate release of activists such as Meeran Haider, Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Shifa ur Rehman, Gulfisha Fatima, and many more who were the important voices of the protest and were charged with UAPA.

Students claimed that the main aim of this act is to transform secular India into a Brahmanical Hindu Rashtra.

The press statement of the student organizations stated, “the students of Jamia are condemning the anti-muslim, undemocratic, and outrightly fascist law and the government’s decision to implement this law. This is just the beginning of the struggle. Jamia students will continue their struggle by uniting the people against the draconian CAA, NRC, and NPR.
