Former U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Hamas appears open to a lasting peace, citing a recent statement by the group and urging Israel to suspend its military operations in Gaza to allow for the safe release of hostages.
In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump said he believes the Palestinian faction is signaling a willingness to pursue long-term peace. He called on the Israeli government to immediately cease airstrikes on Gaza, warning that the current conditions are too dangerous to facilitate hostage negotiations. “We are already in discussions on the details to be worked out,” he added, framing the situation as part of a broader push for peace in the Middle East, not just Gaza.
Trump’s remarks were accompanied by a statement from Hamas, which expressed appreciation for international diplomatic efforts, including those led by Trump, aimed at ending the violence. The group reiterated demands for a halt to Israeli military action, the release of prisoners, unrestricted humanitarian aid access, and a rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians from Gaza.
According to the statement, Hamas has indicated a willingness to release all Israeli hostages , both living and deceased, as part of Trump’s proposed peace framework. The group also signaled openness to relinquishing governance of the Gaza Strip, although it noted that some elements of the proposal would require further discussion among Palestinian factions.
The announcement comes amid ongoing conflict in the region, with international calls intensifying for a ceasefire and renewed diplomatic engagement.
