The police have registered a first information report (FIR) against Ulema Mufti Mujeeb after learning about a purported video of him demonstrating an inflammatory speech at Trishul Chowk, Rudrapur, amidst a Milad un Nabi procession on Wednesday.
The chief minister, talking to reporters, described Mufti’s statement as highlighting the ideology that promotes encroachment and resorts to threats.
“Gone are the days when people would succumb to their threats and engage in appeasement for the sake of their votes… The government has changed now. Since Narendra Modi ji became the Prime Minister, the rule of law has been established in the country. We have constitutional norms, and things operate according to them,” the chief minister said.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister said that the administration would take the strictest possible action against him.
The statement comes ahead of the speech by Mufti Mujeeb, reportedly the principal of Kheda Madrassa, making rounds on the internet, showing him issuing threats regarding the Uttarakhand government’s action against the madrassa.
“Ye dekhna agr madrassa band kr die toh Musalmaan kya haal karnege (Just see what will happen to Muslims if the madrassa is shut down),” he said.
The Mufti also raised the issue of eight acres of Eidgah land acquired by the municipal corporation last year and demanded the land’s return.
Circle Officer Vibhav Saini said that the inflammatory statement made by the mufti was an attempt to disrupt social harmony, and the FIR against the mufti has been registered against the mufti on the basis of the video.
Following the video, Rudrapur Mayor Vikas Sharma said pressure associated with government land would not be tolerated.
“Let alone eight acres, not even an inch of government land will be relinquished under anyone’s pressure,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Shahid Raza, manager of the procession committee, alleged that the video circulating is fake and has been made using AI.
As the controversy erupted with the video making rounds on the internet, Mufti allegedly fled his home, but the police have registered an FIR against him.
