US and Iran agree to end War, peace deal set for Friday

Date:

After a long going military conflict that brought West Asia to the brink of total collapse, a major diplomatic breakthrough has finally emerged. The United States and Iran have successfully hammered out a preliminary peace framework to end their long war. Pakistan, acting as the primary mediator throughout the grueling secret talks, broke the news first, with both Washington and Tehran later confirming that an official signing ceremony is locked in for this coming Friday, June 19, 2026, in Switzerland.

The core of the newly minted memorandum of understanding demands an immediate and permanent halt to military operations. Crucially, the blue print doesn’t just stop the direct fighting between Washington and Tehran, it’s designed to simultaneously freeze adjacent regional battlegrounds, pulling the plug on the intense hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah forces in Lebanon,

For a world economy battered by surging energy cost, the most immediate relief comes by sea. U.S. President Donald Trump announced he has officially ordered the immediate lifting of the U.S. Navy’s aggressive naval blockade on Iranian ports, a squeeze that had effectively choked off nearly 90% Iran’s pre-war crude exports. On the other hand, the highly volatile Strait of Hormuz will be reopened toll free to international commercial shipping. Because of underwater mines scattered during conflict, Iranian naval forces will spend the next 60 days clearing the waters to safely restore normal  maritime traffic.

The global market reacted with visible relief. Almost immediately after the announcement leaked, benchmark Brent crude prices tumbled by more than 4%, dropping back down from $96 a barrel threshold that had been hammering oil importing countries like India.

Taking to social media, a triumphant Trump proclaimed that the deal was “now complete,” telling global shipping companies to

“start your engines” and let the oil flow. The White House has already confirmed that vice President J.D. Vance is preparing to fly out to Europe to represent the administration at Friday’s formal signing.

Despite the sudden optimism, the atmosphere remains incredibly tense. In Tehran, Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed the text was finalized, but state media heavily caveated the news, noting that the agreement was forged in an environment of profound “continued distrust.” Iranian officials made it clear that not a single piece of the agreement would be enacted until the official paperwork is signed on Friday.

The next phase will be the test of the truce. While the immediate focus centres on silencing the guns and freeing up trade routes, the framework leaves the thornier issue of Iran’s nuclear capabilities for later. The two nations have explicitly given themselves a tight 60 day window post-signing to launch technical negotiations regarding a mechanism to safely downblend and dispose of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile.
