New Delhi: After nearly three decades, India will once again play home to the prestigious Miss World international beauty contest in 2023.

The precise dates for the eagerly awaited 71st Miss World edition have not yet been determined, although it is likely to occur in November of this year.

The international pageant was last held in India in 1996.

“I am delighted to announce India as the new home of the 71st Miss World Final”, said Julia Morley, chairperson and CEO of Miss World organization during a press conference on Thursday.

“We are excited to share your unique and diverse culture, world-class attractions, and breathtaking locations with the rest of the world. The 71st Miss World 2023 will showcase the achievements of 130 national champions during their one-month journey across ‘Incredible India,’ as we present the most spectacular Miss World final to date”, she further stated.

Several activities, including talent shows, sporting challenges, and philanthropic endeavors will be held during the month-long event, which will include competitors from over 130 nations. The events and games are all designed to emphasize the traits that make the contestants change ambassadors.

Miss World 2022, Karolina Bielawska of Poland, who is currently in India to promote the beauty pageant, expressed her excitement about passing on the crown in this “beautiful country” that upholds the same ideals as Miss World.

“India possesses the utmost hospitality in the entire world. This is my second visit, and I am overwhelmed by the warm welcome that makes me feel at home. India embraces values of diversity, unity, family, respect, love, and kindness, which are very fundamental to Miss World.

We are eager to showcase these values to the world. There is so much more to explore in this incredible nation, and the concept of bringing the entire world here for a month to witness everything India has to offer is truly remarkable,” said the Miss World 2022.

India has won the prestigious title six times — Reita Faria (1966), Aishwarya Rai (1994), Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mookhey (1999), Priyanka Chopra (2000), and Manushi Chillar (2017).
