UP: Rape of 8-Year-Old Girl by 80-Year-Old Hindu Priest in Kanpur

Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh – A heart-wrenching incident has come to light in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where an 80-year-old Hindu priest has been alleged of raping an innocent 8-year-old girl. The accused, identified as Ghanshyam Das, resided in a temple located along the highway near Barra police station, where he served as a caretaker and priest.

The distressing incident came to the attention of the community when the father of the teen girl caught the priest red-handed, committing the heinous act.

According to the victim’s father, the incident took place on Saturday around 8 pm, when his daughter was not at home. Worried about her whereabouts, he began a search and eventually arrived at Ghanshyam Das’s residence.

To his utmost shock, the father witnessed the heinous act, prompting him to confront the perpetrator. Ghanshyam Das hastily covered the girl with clothing before opening the door upon being confronted.

The victim’s father, a laborer, expressed his anguish, emphasizing that both he and his wife tirelessly work to support their family. However, in their absence, Ghanshyam Das took advantage of the situation, luring the young girl to his house.

Promptly after the First Information Report (FIR) was filed, the local authorities swiftly intervened, ensuring the well-being of the victim by arranging for a medical examination.

Meanwhile, Ghanshyam Das has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, aimed at safeguarding minors from such heinous crimes.

The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the country, igniting discussions on women’s safety.
